How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World

We read the book How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World. In this book the main character wants to make an apple pie, but the market is closed so she can't buy the ingredients from the market. She decided to travel the world, gathering items necessary for her pie. Our class used a globe and world map to follow her adventures  This book complements our Going Global theme and we were even able to make some math connections. The Golden Dragons made apple crisp for a snack on Thursday. (Did you know that you need 8 apples to get 16 apple halves?) We also focused on the reading skills of sequencing and retelling when we put the events from this story in sequential order.

Mrs. Downing helped us read the apple crisp recipe.

We measured, chopped and mixed ingredients.

Lucky for us the market was open! We did not need to travel around the world to gather ingredients for our apple crisp.

It was fun to make the apple crisp....

but eating was the best part!

Mrs. Downing even brought ice cream to go with our delicious apple treat.

YUM!!!
